Oxfam Trailwalk

We did it!! 17 hours and 7 minutes

Team Fitness For Fun finished Oxfam trailwalker 2011 in 17 hours and 7 minutes and that got us into 8th place.  It was a fantastic experience, the weather, the scenery, the support crew, the food, EVERYTHING was fantastic.  It was inspirational to see so many people out there of all shapes, sizes, fitness levels and ages.  Thanks so much to Oxfam for putting on such a well organised event.  Below are some photos of the event and a day in the life of our support crew!!

Smartwool

Thanks to our sponsor smartwool who have provided us with a super soft merino layer that has warmth, fit and comfort in all conditions.  And don’t get the team started on the smartwool socks, these are definately the most comfortable socks we have worn.

A day in the life of our amazing support crew!!

Hope you’ve all enjoyed some well earned R&R!   Amazing “Fitness for Fun” you absolutely monstered that course, an inspirational acheivement and damn proud of your efforts.

Makes life at these events blissful with a great support crew, our team were blessed to have that this weekend.

Abe stretching those aching bods out, hugely boosting team morale on the course in those final stages, consistantly obliging 3 womens queries of ”can you find…?”, “can you lift…?” “have you seen…?”, “why is the gas not working?”, “why is the microwave not working?” ”Are we parked close enough to the checkpoint?” & then googling our crossword solutions for us! Legend.

Brownie keeping us all on track with her timekeeping and calculating, providing an extra pair of hands when needed, that devine pasta soup and homemade chocky bikkies…yum! & some comical relief listening to Pete’s SOS calls for aid in soothing kiddy injuries & whoas, discovering why raspberry drink is not such a flash food group, he can make pancakes for brekkie when Mum’s away adding nicely to her overflowing “to do’s” list for her return, disclosing the kids have had takeout two nights in a row and by the way, where the heck are the light sabers?!! Priceless.

Lindylou amongst “everything” else in particular we pay tribute to your superb parking skills at Wairakei where you obliged Brownie and I by moving the van 4 times…! Oh & your navigating skills during my navigation session when I candidly agreed with the Marshall that we were on our way to checkpt 5, the Glider Club, when in fact we were on our way to checkpt 7, the Rugby Club, hmmmm, yep the “fab four” have already experienced my hazy navigating but that well and truely confirmed I suck at it.

Kirill was amazing Oksana, you would have been so proud, he obliged our every little whim when asked without hesitation, he  patiently listened to all our “girly gasing” for the majority of that 17.07mins!  He was an absolute pleasure to have with us…don’t suppose you want to swap him occassionally for one teenage girl?
